The design of legacy iOS receives a lot of criticism for how 'bloated' it may feel. WA for Legacy iOS is designed to only show things that are important in the moment, removing bloat like checkmarks and timestamps from the message bubbles when you don't need them.

Everything is Still Here

WA for Legacy iOS will show the clock/checkmarks right after you send a message, and will slide them away when your message has been sent.

You can always show the checkmarks and timestamp by simply sliding the bubble to the side.

We all love the expressiveness of legacy iOS. That's why WA for Legacy iOS uses many beautiful animations throughout the app. All animations are quick, yet still unmistakably legacy iOS.

Use Any Emoji as a Reaction

You can use any emoji from your iPhone's emoji keyboard as a reaction to a message. The interface is truly gorgeous.

Reactions in the Bubble

All reactions will be shown beneath the chat bubble like a playful sticker.

Easily Manage Reactions

When you tap on a reaction, a list will show all the people who have reacted to the message. You can also remove your own reaction from the same list.

All Attachments Live Here

WA for Legacy iOS introduces a completely new approach to managing attachments. The quoted message, along with any images or videos you attach, will appear in a single place—the Attachments Bar, right above the message text field.

Optimized for Mobile Data

WA for Legacy iOS automatically compresses any images or videos you add, ensuring they can be sent quickly over mobile data without a noticeable loss in quality.

Easy to Manage

You can quickly remove an attachment by pressing and holding the attachment bubble, then selecting 'Remove'.

Sync with your iPhone Contacts

WA for Legacy iOS uses your local Contacts list, instead of the contacts in WhatsApp. That name will also show up in Push Notifications.

Push Notifications*

You'll get notified of new messages and chats thanks to native Push Notifications. WA for Legacy iOS uses the official Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver messages to you as they arrive.

All Media overview

Easily browse through all media that has been sent in a chat with the 'All Media' view.

Custom Bubbles

At release, you can pick from a wide range of bubble colors to make every chat special. You can also pick a chat bubble for a specific chat for that special someone.

Audio Playback

WA for Legacy iOS will automatically convert all audio that you receive to something that your legacy iOS device can play. It will also extract ID3 tags like song title, artist and album from the file and display it in the app.

Manage Cloud subscription

Manage your WA for Legacy iOS Cloud subscription right from within the app. Including the option to cancel your subscription at anytime. No questions asked. No fees.

Auto-Download Media

You can choose to only auto-download certain types of media, or to download it all. You also have control wether WA for Legacy iOS should only auto-download over Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and Mobile Data.

Optimized Downloads

You can tell the server or WA for Legacy iOS Cloud to make a file, image or video that you're about to download smaller before sending it to your device, saving bandwidth and iPhone storage along the way.

Hide Messages from Blocked

You can choose to hide messages from people you've blocked from group chats.

Optimized Video

Video's can take a long time to download, especially while using Mobile Data. With 'Optimize Video', you have the option to tell the server to scale down video, before it is sent to your device.

Multilingual by Design

At release and during the Beta, WA for Legacy iOS will be available in English, German, Dutch and Portugese. More languages will be added based on how many people request them.
